For a while, I felt that I would one day find a job – namely a 9-5 – where I would make a magic sum of money and be able to 1.) save, and 2.) one day get a mortgage in my own name.
The reality is, like many people in the area I was working in (I worked first in admin, and later communications) even on the higher pay bands, where I was based, the mortgage company would not have given me a second look on that wage, unless I was buying with a partner and we could combine our salary (and even then, this would have been tricky).
As an entrepreneur, one of the questions I find myself asking is, what is motivating me to do what I do? Is it partly for the money? What am I aiming for in the future? If I do get rich, then what next?
It’s interesting writing about the personal blocks some may have to making money as an entrepreneur in my ‘Money Money Money’ series, as I think we all have things that we are working through (even holistic healers need therapists). It’s also interesting, talking about the personal barriers to making money, when obviously, I still have some! I’m a ‘new kid on the block’ in many ways, having only been self-employed for over a year, and I think every time you do something new (in my case, a huge career change from a typical 9-5 to full-time entrepreneur) it’s natural to bring up certain things, with certain decision making that we may have never had to make before.
As part of my Money Money Money vlog series, I ask the question: ‘Is it possible to make money in a system that is evil?’ I think there are common beliefs that people have around this idea: ‘Money is evil,’ or ‘I will never be a good person if I make money’ or ‘money is never kind’ are some common assumptions. Moving forwards with these ideas, I think it can useful to analyse where these ideas about money come from, and if we decide that beliefs such as these no longer serve us anymore on our money making path – how can we change that?
As part of my Money Money Money vlog series, I explore some of the common beliefs around money, and some of the things that we may feel can hold us back from manifesting what we want in our lives, and living in abundance.
The title of this vlog is addressed, because actually I think it’s an important question, when asking ourselves what we want to do with our career. If we’re used to working in industries that give us ‘less than average’ pay, or ‘average’ pay, then it might be a shift in mentality, as well as lifestyle, considering what it would be like to make more money than we ever have done. If we consider earning money as never possible to do in a ‘good’ way, then this may serve as a block to ever earning more money than we already do.
As well as the art and poetry that I’m doing (the Bristol Art Tour will continue as normal), I’m also announcing my new vlog series titled ‘Money Money Money.’
This series explores some common beliefs around money, where they come from, and how to move forwards. The videos comprise of a combination of how I feel on certain topics, combined with what I’ve learned as part of my holistic healing training as a ThetaHealer (2 of my courses have focused on removing personal blocks on starting your own business as pursuing a career you love).
